Asparagus is so simple to make and doesn't require anything fancy to taste great. I steam my asparagus like this in just a little bit of water, and then no steamer basket is needed. Then, once it is a bright green color I saute it in a tad of olive oil for about a minute and sprinkle with a little salt.

To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few components. You can cook preparing/ steaming asparagus using 3 ingredients and 12 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Preparing/ Steaming Asparagus:

  1. Get 1 lb asparagus
  2. Prepare 1 tsp walnut, almond, or extra virgin olive oil
  3. Prepare 1 tsp lemon juice

In a large skillet over medium heat, add asparagus. Add enough water to just cover the bottom of the pan. Rinse and prepare the asparagus as usual, depending on how hungry you and your guests are determines how many spears you need to cook. - I work on the basis of about six to eight spears per person. Steaming requires placing the asparagus in a basket that sits over a pan of boiling water and covered by a lid.

Instructions to make Preparing/ Steaming Asparagus:

  1. Preparing and steaming asparagus without a steamer is easy to do with aluminum foil and a shallow pan with a top.
  2. Take one asparagus and gently bend the bottom end.
  3. The asparagus will break away from the tough end. Discard tough ends.
  4. Line up all the asparagus and cut off the same amount from the bottom.
  5. Gently clean with cold water.
  6. Use shallow pan and sheet of aluminum foil.
  7. Prepare a "pillow" with aluminum foil.
  8. Place asparagus in pan with the thicker pieces to back.
  9. Pour enough water that the lower parts are just submerged.
  10. Steam on medium to high heat until the asparagus change to a deep green, but are still firm.
  11. Remove from pan and place in serving dish.
  12. Drizzle oil, add lemon juice salt and pepper to taste.

The water itself does not touch it. Instead, the steam created by the boiling water cooks the asparagus. Regardless, make sure to eat asparagus within a few days of purchase. Many people prefer thin asparagus stalks for their tender texture. Thin asparagus is indeed delicious at its prime, tender and sweet.
