  1. Prepare basmati rice, soaked for 15–30 minutes
  2. Take oil of choice
  3. Take Whole Spices
  4. Prepare cardamom pods

  7. Make ready cinnamon stick
  8. Make ready cumin seeds
  9. Get ground meat of choice
  10. Get caramelized onion
  11. Get minced garlic
  12. Get minced ginger
  13. Get – 1 Serrano pepper or green chilli, minced, adjust to taste

  15. Take coriander powder
  16. Make ready Red chilli powder
  17. Make ready salt
  18. Make ready black pepper
  19. Make ready garam masala
  20. Prepare turmeric
  21. Make ready tomatoes, diced
  22. Make ready medium potatoes, diced
  23. Prepare frozen green peas
  24. Make ready water
  25. Prepare cilantro leaves, chopped
  26. Take mint leaves, chopped
  27. Prepare Curd/Yoghurt
  28. Prepare kewra water

Vegetarians Keemas usually involve peas or cauliflower. Most Keemas are minced meats that are mixed with aromatic spices that are either eaten by itself or added to rice or stuffed in breads.  Keema Biryani, the name itself. And as popular as biryani is, so is the wide variety in which the preparation is available. One such variant is the keema biryani that uses minced meat instead of chunks of meat.

Instructions to make Keema Biryani:

  1. Soak the basmati rice in cold water for 15-30 minutes. Drain, rinse and set aside.
  2. Heat a pot on medium heat, add the oil to the pot. Allow the oil a minute to heat up, add the ground meat, onions, garlic, ginger, Serrano pepper and cook until the meat is mostly browned.
  3. Add the ground spices, mix well, then add the tomatoes, peas, potato and cook for 12 minutes, or until they have softened. Add in the curd and turn of the heat. Mix well and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in another pot, then add the whole spices to the pot and give them a stir. Once the spices begin to sizzle, add the drained rice to the pot saute it for 30 seconds. Add in the water and cook the rice. Once the rice is cooked drain the water and start layering the biryani.
  5. For layering, take out half of the rice from the pot in a different vessel to the rest of the rice add all of your keema and potato mix, Sprinkle half the cilantro and mint on top of the keema. Add the rest of the rice on top.
  6. Sprinkle Kewra water on the layered rice and close the lid. keep it on medium-low heat for 20 mins.
  7. Sprinkle with remaining cilantro and mint and serve with cold Raita.
